The 5th Annual T.R. Ashworth Lecture in Sociology

The flagship annual event of the Sociology Program at The University of Melbourne, The T.R. Ashworth Lecture in Sociology, was held on Thursday 16 November 2006. This year the speech, entitled 'Global Terror, Catastrophic Violence: Implications for Australia and Asia', was delivered by Dr Kevin McDonald, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Melbourne.

Diplomatic Conclusions

The School of Political Science, Criminology & Sociology is proud to announce "Diplomatic Conclusions": a new series of lectures featuring international speakers such as Ambassadors and High Commissioners discussing issues of contemporary global importance. Study in Europe!

An excellent opportunity exists for students to study in Europe (Paris, Trento, Birmingham) as part of a University of Melbourne degree (Masters in International Politics). Reason in Revolt

The Reason in Revolt website has gone live at www.reasoninrevolt.net.au. This is part of a project which aims to produce new ways of understanding and interpreting the role of intellectuals in the development of Australian political radicalism during the period 1872 to 2000. The project has resulted in the establishment of a substantial on-line collection of radical political primary source material, with scholarly commentary and analysis, easily accessible to other researchers.

 

Washington Internship Program

Students are invited to participate in the 2006 Uni-Capitol Washington Internship program, which establishes internships in the US Congress in Washington DC.

 

Department Postgraduate Fieldwork Fund 2005

Applications for the Department's Fieldwork fund are now open. Up to $1000 can be awarded to research-only postgraduates to fund their study-related travel. Applications close 22 April.

 

EU Exchange Program

Coursework Master of International Politics students are eligible for the new European Union exchange program which starts in 2005. Course information is now available. Applications close 15 March.

 

Inaugural Melbourne Politics Lecture

Vice-Chancellor designate Professor Glyn Davis gave the inaugural Melbourne Politics Lecture at the University of Melbourne on Monday 22 November.
