Grants for travel and fieldwork Grants are available from numerous sources on and off campus to help postgraduates meet the costs associated with their research. The most common grants are listed below, but other 'one-off' grants become available from time to time. Stay in touch through the Department's and the Graduate Centre's email lists for the latest information on upcoming grant offers, and check with the Melbourne Scholarships Office for other potential sources of funding from organisations outside the University. Important note: all students undertaking research-related
work off campus are required to undertake a risk assessment. Risk assessment

Overseas Research Scholarships Other travel scholarships and grants can be found through the Faculty of Arts and the Melbourne Scholarships Office. Scholarships for paying stipends Local students Postgraduate Equity Scholarships (PES) are available to provide support for students of Indigeous Australian descent, disabilities, whose academic career has been adversely affected and those studying in the field of human rights. International students Full details and applications about these and other scholarships can be found at the Melbourne Scholarships Office Local students Some HECS places may be available for coursework postgraduates, but most will be offered admission on a fee-paying basis. The Faculty of Arts expects to provide a part-fee remission to all newly enrolling Australian students. Coursework students can apply for a loan to fund their study, through the PELS scheme. International students Other ScholarshipsThe Darmasiswa ProgramThe Darmasiswa program aims to foster interest in Indonesia’s language, culture and arts among friendly nations. The program first began in 1974, and was initially only for students from ASEAN countries. In 1976, the program was expanded and students from other countries such as Hungary, Norway, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, France, Australia and the USA were encouraged to apply. Darmasiswa is a one- (short course) or two- (regular course) semester scholarship offered by the Indonesian government to foreign students willing to study language or arts in an Indonesian university. The scholarship covers living allowance, tuition fee and limited medical insurance. For students coming from Vietnam, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Laos the scholarship may cover the airfares. More than 150 students from many different countries study in Indonesian universities under Darmasiswa scholarship each year. The application form is available at the Indonesian Embassy in every country in the world. The Darmasiswa Scholarships are funded by the Indonesian government, and several are offered annually to Australians wishing to undertake one year, non degree programs at a tertiary level in Indonesia. Applications must be received by the Education and Cultural Section by the end of November, and are then sent to Jakarta for consideration. Successful applicants are notified mid year, and travel to Indonesia to commence their studies in August/September. Requirements:
