Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan Awards - UK
The Melbourne Scholarships Office is taking applications for the Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan (CSFP) UK Awards.
The CSFP Awards are available for Australian students wishing to undertake postgraduate study in the United Kingdom from October 2005.
Applications and guidelines are available from the Melbourne Scholarships Office, Level 3, John Smyth Building (8344 8747) or can be downloaded from:

Endeavour Australia Awards
Applications are invited for DEST's Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards program, which support postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to undertake short-term research at an Australian or Asian higher education institution. Available in all academic fields, the fellowships are for four to six months' duration and valued at up to A$25,000.
The aim of the program is to attract high-performing scholars and research proposals which will promote development of the Asian and Australian social and economic environment.
Funding under this program of A$1 million per annum over three years will enable up to 20 in-coming Asian scholars per year to undertake an award in Australia, while up to 20 Australian scholars per year will be supported to undertake a research program in a designated Asian country or administrative region.
Two-thirds of the awards will be allocated to scholars coming from or going to mainland China and Hong Kong SAR and the remaining one-third to scholars coming from or going to India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Melbourne Journal of Politics Launch: 20 September
Volume 29 of the Department's publication, the Melbourne Journal of Politics, will be launched on Monday 20 September, 4.30 for 5.00 pm.
The Dean of Arts, Prof. Stuart McIntyre, will launch the book in Room 519, the John medley Building.

Cairo International Model Arab League
The Cairo International Model Arab League (CIMAL) is a 5 day conference that will be held on the 23rd of November 2004.Throughout the last fourteen years CIMAL has grown to be one of the largest and most distinguished simulations of the Arab League worldwide. The reputation of the program is a result of two pillars of CIMAL, namely a distinguished academic level of political knowledge particularly in Middle East affairs; and an experienced organization.
CIMAL strongly encourages the participation of foreign students in its conference, as an opportunity to get a first-hand experience with the region's politics, culture and society.

Public Lecture 14 September: Europe’s Role in a Globalized World
The University of Melbourne International Public Lecture
Former Irish PM and Foreign Minister Dr Garret FitzGerald will present a public lecture titled "Reflections on Europe's Role in a Globalized World" on Tuesday 14 September at 6-7.30pm in the Copland Theatre, Economics and Commerce Building.
After a career in politics, Dr Garret FitzGerald now lectures and writes, and is a consultant and company director, as well as being a member of the Council of State and an active Chancellor of the National University of Ireland.
This public lecture is co-sponsored by the Contemporary Europe Research Centre and is part of the University of Melbourne's Faulty of Arts Dean's Lecture Series and is a University of Melbourne International Public Lecture.

Red Cross Blood Service coming to campus 15-17 September
A mobile donation unit of the Red Cross Blood Service will be on the Parkville campus of the University of Melbourne on 15,16,17 September.
A donation area will be established in the Grand Buffet Room on Level 1 of the Union Building.
The Red Cross Blood Service has advised that national blood stocks have hit a critically low level this week and encourages anyone who has ever considered donating blood to participate on this occasion, and regular donors to ensure they attend.
