ALLOC8 - Tutorial Allocation System
Tutorial sign-up instructions Semester 2, 2008
How do I enrol in a tutorial in the School of Social and Political Sciences?
All 1st – 3rd year subjects in the School of Social and Political Sciences, including Public Policy and Management and Socio-legal Studies subjects, will use the Alloc8 system for tutorial allocation. This means that you will be automatically placed into a tutorial, and can access your tutorial timetable on-line.
NB. Each School is responsible for its own tutorials. Please do not expect the School of Social and Political Sciences to edit your timetable for tutorials held by other Schools.
How do I confirm my place in a tutorial?
You MUST access & print your timetable through the Alloc8 web page from Wednesday 16th July to confirm your place. Please refer to the individual subject guides for information about when tutorials begin.
If you need to make changes to your allocations, you can edit your timetable from Thursday 17th July. You can do this either from home if you have a computer connected to the Internet, or from a computer at the University. You will need to have confirmed your enrolment in order to access this allocation process. If you have any queries about confirming your enrolment, please see a course advisor at the Arts/Music Student Support Centre in the Old Arts building.
How do I access and print my personal timetable?
Open the link to Alloc8. This link will take you to a page where you will need to verify your identity. Enter your student ID number and your personal PIN (initially provided by Student Administration and changed by you when you first logged into the University system). Follow the instructions on the screen to print your timetable. When you print your timetable, your place in the subjects and times shown is confirmed and there is nothing further that you need to do. Go to the Login Page: https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/scitt.pl
What if I need to change my tutorial?
From Thursday 17th July until Friday 8th August at 3:30pm sharp you may edit your timetable by accessing the Alloc8 website.
Please be aware that Alloc8 is designed to accept a maximum number of 15 students per tutorial for first year and 20 students per tutorial for second/third year for all subjects that are run through the School of Social and Political Sciences. Full tutorials will be displayed, but will be unavailable for students to select. The School cannot place students into a tutorial that has already reached its maximum number. Please direct all Alloc8 queries to:
pscs-alloc8@unimelb.edu.au and you e-mail request will be responded to from Monday 21st July.
How do I find out where my classes are held?
Lecture times and venues are posted on School of Social and Political Sciences notice boards. You can also find this information online on the Student Information System (SIS) website (https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/subjects.pl). Tutorial times and venues can be found on the Alloc8 system.
How do I access my timetable for subjects not on Alloc8?
Timetable and venue information for all University lectures can be found on the Student Information System website. If you have enrolled in subjects offered by Schools that do not use Alloc8 to place students in tutorials, you should contact the relevant School to sign up for classes.
What should I do if I have problems with my timetable?
You must use the EDIT function on Alloc8 in the first instance to try to fix your tutorial problem. Sometimes this may not be successful if the class is full or if you have a clash. If this happens please email pscs-alloc8@unimelb.edu.au.
Please note that mere preference and outside work commitments are not considered valid reasons for tutorial allocation changes. For full-time students, the University expects you to be available for class attendance from 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday to Friday. You must arrange work outside of your study commitments, not the other way around.
Do I have to attend all lectures and tutorials?
Once you have enrolled you are expected to attend all lectures and tutorials, and submit all set assignments. There is an expected attendance requirement of at least 75% for all 1st year Political Science / Criminology / Sociology / Public Policy and Management / Socio-Legal Studies tutorials. The attendance requirement for 2nd and 3rd year students is at least 70%. This level of attendance is a hurdle requirement and if you do not meet this requirement, you may be excluded from examinations in subjects concerned. It is important, therefore, to keep informed of the requirements of each subject you undertake. Make sure that you obtain all programs, instructions and guidelines issued by subject coordinators.
