The Europe Social Club is a voluntary association of University of Melbourne postgraduates from all faculties and disciplines united by a shared interest in Europe and European affairs. The Club's activities are sponsored by the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association (UMPA) and it enjoys the patronage of one of the original architects of the European Union, the marvellous Monsieur Jean Monnet.
Europe Social Club warmly welcomes students and other individuals with a passion for European food, wine and culture to participate in its events and activities. So far, since its nativity in late 2004, these have included:
- an inaugural dinner and birthday drinks for mentor Jean Monnet at The European in Spring Street;
- Europe Day and Bastille Day celebrations;
- Wine Receptions following the annual CERC postgraduate conferences in 2004 and 2005;
- a lively discussion dinner co-sponsored by the Contemporary European Studies Association of Australia (CESAA) - the first in a planned series of such evenings;
- the extremely successful black tie Wine and Cheese Tasting Evening;
- and the recent red carpet premiere event, the Europe Social Club Movie Night.
All of our events are subsidised for all participants and many are free.
If you would like to be included on our exclusive invite list send an email with the word SUBSCRIBE in the header to europesocialclub@yahoo.com.au and don't forget to tell us a little about your own interest in Europe.
